Coming Soon Another Space Camp Themed Movie
0So here is my data dump on the next movie to film at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center later this year.
The movie is being directed by Sean McNamara who directed/produced the movie Soul Surfer (great movie by the way) and is also known for producing/directing several other children series including That’s So Raven, Even Stevens and The Suite Live Movie.
McNamara isn’t new to rocket drama and the concept of Dr. Von Braun. In 2001 he produced the movie Race to Space which started James Woods. The movie followed the transition of Dr. Wilhelm von Huber’s son to a new school as his dad worked to launch a rocket for the United States space program. (My kids are big fans of this movie)
While the script is still being worked on we understand the movie will have some hints of the original Space Camp movie. Sorry guys no shuttle launches from Huntsville but there will be a tie in to kids helping astronauts along with a rival team.
Casting for the movie has started and the lead youth role has been cast to Thomas Horn who is currently starring as Oskar Schell in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Filming schedule has not been narrowed down yet (currently slated for sometime this spring into summer) but the movie is scheduled to air in Spring of 2013 as a part of Family Movie Night presented by Walmart and P&G.

SprocketWatch: Former VP Sues To Get Job Back and Sci-Quest Looking To Move
0Good afternoon from 34,000 feet over West Virginia. I’m on my way back from Smithsonian’s Museum Services Center tweetup event in DC and I’ve been getting emails and texts all day about the sprocket. We will have the notes and handouts from today’s business committee meeting uploaded on Friday and yes we will be streaming the ASSEC quarterly meeting as well.
First, in late January of 2012 the Former VP of Space Camp licensing filed a lawsuit in Madison county circuit court stating that he had been wrongfully terminated.

Sci-Quest has been an interesting subject for the past year as Dr. Barnhart has brought up the concept of having the hands on museum co-locate their operations at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Now we learn that the Sci-Quest board is moving ahead with a plan to obtain a new facility. Will be interesting to find out what their plans are and if they include the center.
Sprocketeers Update: Death of Another Scanner, #SITweetup and Audit Update!
0So here is the deal… a little over a year ago my home office scanner/copier/printer just stopped responding. It would power on but that was it. No function at all. I purchased a new HP OfficeJet and it has served my needs for Sprocketeers and home office needs for almost exactly a year and it will no longer pull documents into the feeder. So needles to say I have a STACK of documents that need to be scanned for Sprocketeers and that stack is only going to get bigger this week. So a replacement is on the way and I will have everything uploaded later this week
In other news, I’ll be attending the Smithsonian Museum Services Center tweetup later this week. Be sure to follow #SITweetup on Twitter.
The ASSEC Business Committee and ASSEC quarterly meeting area also scheduled this week as well. Keep watching for updates and notes. One of the subjects to be discussed this week is the audit that was not finalized as of Feb 1. (Deadline was Jan 31). The outstanding issue holding up the audit was decisions and paperwork from the bank that holds the center’s credit line. After reviewing the finances presented at the last business meeting it is hard to believe that the bank would be overly concerned since the center (at least as of January) had on the right path as far as finances go including showing some gains in several areas.
